How to get a certificate of eligibility

For permission to stay in Japan for a long period of time, a valid passport, a visa, and a certificate of eligibility is needed. When a foreign national has arrived in Japan, they are given a status of residence, and the types of activities that can be undertaken are determined by the status of residence. The first thing needed is the certificate of eligibility. This is the process to receive a certificate of eligibility.

1. A completed application form, along with all other required documents. Documents may vary depending on status type and home country.
2. Where to submit：the Japanese embassy in your home region.
3. Processing time：1 to 3 months

Certificate of Eligibility

When a foreign national is preparing to come to Japan for a long term stay; the certificate of eligibility is usually applied for during the planning phases of the trip、before coming to Japan.
